Legato Systems to Develop Storage Management Software for EMCs Industry Leading Content Addressed Storage Solution

Announcement posted by Legato Systems Inc. 02 May 2002

Legato Systems, Inc. (NASDAQ: LGTO), a worldwide leader in enterprise storage management software, today announced its intention to support EMC Corporations newly announced EMC Centera content addressed storage (CAS) solution.
EMC Centera works within the new software-driven storage architecture to address the unique information storage requirements of long-lasting, unchanging digital objects, also referred to as fixed content objects. Examples of fixed content objects include: email with attachments, brokerage transactions, Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI).
Like many companies, Legato has customers working in a wide variety of industries that rely on the availability and accessibility of their fixed content for success, said David L. Beamer, COO, Legato Systems. Legatos mission is to protect, manage, and make available business-critical information so we understand the value of what EMC is delivering to the marketplace with this new solution. By working together we can deliver qualified solutions faster.
Whether electronic business documents or medical images, all types of fixed content have three common attributes: long-term value to an organization, the need to remain unchanged, and increased value through fast access with assured content integrity. The EMC Centera network-based storage solution is designed to deliver all three while economically scaling from multiple terabyte to petabyte-sized environments.
Just as the growth of applications such as Computer Aided Design (CAD) and explosion of the Web drove the use of Network Attached Storage (NAS) as an enterprise storage strategy, the need to manage, protect, and access fixed content is the driving force behind this new category of storage, said Tom Heiser, vice president and general manager, Content Addressed Storage, EMC. EMC is pleased to see our partners such as Legato Systems exploring the opportunities to integrate their industry-leading, enterprise storage technology with EMC Centera.
