Announcement posted by NSW Department of Information Technology and Management 27 Jul 2002

People will get quicker and better access to government services over the internet under a new look ServiceNSW web-portal, launched today by NSW Minister for Information Technology Kim Yeadon.

Mr Yeadon said the NSW Governments ServiceNSW now had more than 3,000 links to information or services.

The new ServiceNSW homepage now provides faster download links, in fact faster than other major web sites such as NineMSN, Yahoo and the Sydney Morning Herald, Mr Yeadon said.

But importantly its also providing easier navigation tools to search for services across the whole spectrum of NSW Government.

The site includes new Life Events pages which group links to a whole range of important information and services, such as looking for a job, buying a home or having a baby.

Clicking the having a baby button, for example, reveals a wealth of related links to health, education, parenting and even adoption.

The advantage is that you do not need to know the names of Government agencies to find the information you need.

A Quick Links area has also been added to highlight popular services such as NSW Government jobs online, bill payments and tourism information.

This is the fourth re-design of the NSW Government homepage since it was launched in 1998 and the first since the Sydney 2000 Olympics.

It shows a commitment that the NSW Government is keeping up to date with technology to provide the best possible electronic services to the people of NSW.

The ACNielsen ratings consistently list NSW Government websites as having the most online visitors of any State Government.

Last May, there were 12.1 million page views on NSW Government websites. This was more than twice the number of the next contender, which was Victoria with only 5.6 million page views in the same period.
