For Immediate Release: National Economic Review: Australia’s Annual Growth Summit

Announcement posted by Global Access Partners 14 Sep 2011

Friday 16 September 2011, 9:00am- 4:00pm Legislative Assembly Chamber NSW Parliament House, Sydney
Australia’s growing and ageing population has risen to the top of the national debate,
with concerns over skill shortages balanced against concerns regarding the continent’s
environmental carrying capacity in the face of global warming and other challenges.

Current considerations regarding housing and transport, hospitals and aged care
facilities, food production and employment must increasingly be led by an overarching
population policy.

Public policy network Global Access Partners will host its National Economic Review
2011: Australia's Annual Growth Summit at Parliament House, Sydney on Friday 16
September. The event will address housing, transport, health, immigration, employment
and other key issues surrounding population in Australia.

“It is obvious population growth will have a major impact on development and industrialisation,
infrastructure planning, job creation and the wider social national economy,” Summit Executive
Manager Lisa Middlebrook said.

“What is much less obvious is now we manage and create an Australian population that maintains
a vibrant economy, a living, healthy environment and a culture of which we can be proud.

“The summit, which features some of the brightest minds in Australia, will focus on these key
issues as we aim to not only discuss our future and the impact of a larger population but develop
the framework to address these questions and plan for a larger Australia.”

The day is broken into three sessions: ‘Demographics & Population’, ‘Infrastructure’ and ‘Jobs and
Fiscal Policy’.

Keynote speakers include:
Hon Andrew Stoner MP, Deputy Premier, Minister for Trade & Investment, Minister
for Regional Infrastructure & Services, NSW Government
Dr Keith Suter, Managing Director, Global Directions think tank, Foreign Affairs
Editor, Channel 7, Sunrise
Hon Lindsay Tanner, Special Advisor to Lazard, Vice-Chancellor’s Fellow, Victoria
University
