Dr Oz slammed on arsenic claims

Announcement posted by It's My Health 21 Sep 2011

According to consumer health information site www.itsmyhealth.com.aua popular TV doctor has come under fire for his “irresponsible and misleading” claims that apple juice is unsafe because it is laden with arsenic.

US surgeon Dr Mehmet Oz, whose show airs on two Australian channels, recently reported that five brands of apple juice contained concerning levels of arsenic.

He cited an independent laboratory analysis of 36 juice samples – ten of which came back with arsenic levels above the limits allowed in drinking water.

But the US Food and Drug Administration issued Dr Oz with two strongly worded warnings, even before the show was broadcast.

It dismissed the total arsenic test used by the show, which it said was unable to distinguish between organic, natural forms of arsenic and inorganic, potentially toxic forms.
