Bitdefender launches security solution for virtualised datacentres

Announcement posted by BitDefender 20 Oct 2011

The new security solution centralises antimalware functions to increase consolidation ratios in virtualised server or desktop environments powered by any virtualisation technology

SYDNEY & AUCKLAND October 20, 2011 –BitDefender, an award-winning provider of innovative security solutions, announced at VMworld 2011 Europe the commercial availability of an integrated security solution for VMware vShield™ 5 virtualised datacentres. Security for Virtualized Environments by Bitdefender integrates with VMware vShield Endpoint™ to protect Windows servers and desktops, as well as Linux and Solaris systems.

Security is a top priority for virtualised datacentres as an increasing number of enterprises worldwide turn to them to deliver both core enterprise applications and cloud services. Security for Virtualized Environments by Bitdefender offers comprehensive security combined with reduced system demands, which ultimately enable higher consolidation ratios without compromising security.

“We are pleased to have Bitdefender as one of our first partners to launch a commercial solution that integrates with our latest VMware vShield Endpoint™ security technology,” said Parag Patel, vice ;president, Global Strategic Alliances, VMware. “The combination of virtualisation and security expertise of VMware and Bitdefender will deliver ongoing value to our customers by offloading key antimalware functions to a security virtual machine for improved performance.”

Security for Virtualized Environments by Bitdefender offers a number of key benefits and features to enterprises:

•                    Protects environments running VMware software or any other virtualisation technology. When installed in VMware environments, Security for Virtualized Environments by Bitdefender takes advantage of VMware vShield Endpoint integration for optimised security functions. The solution architecture also enables protecting environments powered by any other server or desktop virtualisation technology, including hypervisors from Citrix Xen, Microsoft Hyper-V, Oracle VM and Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization running Windows, Linux, and Solaris.

•                    Comprehensive security with centralised scanning. Using unique product architecture, many scanning functions are centralised and de-duplicated, eliminating common issues with performance and boot time security gaps. Centralised scanning reduces system demand associated with updates, management and scanning. To provide comprehensive protection, antimalware scanning has been enhanced with a silent agent designed to deliver memory and process scanning as well as a local GUI for VDI end-users.

•                    Built on new Gravity Architecture. Security for Virtualized Environments by Bitdefender is part of the new generation of Bitdefender Business Solutions based on Gravity Architecture.  The new Bitdefender Gravity Architecture also powers Cloud Security for Endpoints by Bitdefender and enables centralised management of multiple Bitdefender security solutions. By building the new architecture around virtual containers that can be deployed as a turnkey solution, it enables large enterprises and service providers to offer their customers highly scalable solutions for comprehensive security.

“Security for Virtualized Environments is the key solution in Bitdefender’s new enterprise security offering presented at VMworld 2011 Europe,” explained Bogdan Dumitru, chief technical officer, Bitdefender. “As organisations increase consolidation ratios in datacentres, products that have been designed specifically to address security in virtual environments are playing a critical role. The architecture of Security for Virtualized Environments by Bitdefender allows organisations to maximise the return on investment that is realised in their datacentre and run more virtual machines without compromising the security.”

Licensing and Availability

Security for Virtualized Environments by Bitdefender provides comprehensive security for all virtualised environments with flexible licensing that includes all security modules without additional fees. Licenses are available based on either the number of physical processors (CPUs) or the number of protected Virtual Machines (VMs). Perpetual licensing and volume discounts are available.
