Wigan: a winner in maturity – and youth

Peter Lehmann Wines wins at Melbourne Wine Show 2011

Peter Lehmann Wines Wigan Riesling continues its run of success with a trophy at the RoyalMelbourne Wine Show – its sixth in the past two months.


The 2005 Peter Lehmann Wines Eden Valley Wigan Riesling took out the trophy for theBest Mature Wine, 2005 or older.


The 2005 is the current release Wigan Riesling, and is currently available through PeterLehmann Wines cellar door for only $28 a bottle.


Proving its pedigree, and giving a taste of things to come, the 2010 Wigan Riesling – to bereleased in 2015 – also won a gold medal.


“The Wigan is deliberately made as an ageing style,” winemaker Andrew Wigans says. “Soto get recognition as a one year old wine is testament to the Eden Valley growers who are

as committed to making great wines as we are in the winery.”


The 2005 Wigan Riesling also won three trophies at the recent Barossa Wine Show,including Best Wine in Show, as well as Best Australian Riesling over 10 in the DecanterWorld Wine Awards in London. The 2006 vintage – to be released next month – is followingsuit having been awarded Best Riesling in Show earlier this month at the Adelaide WineShow.


“The Best Mature Wine category is judged alongside Museum stock and icon reds threetimes the price of our wine,” Wigan says.


“To be winning trophies across across multiple categories with this wine is an absolutehonour.”
