Perth appointment boosts agency’s mining offer

National issues management firm Communications & Public Relations (CPR) has appointed senior adviser Travis Macrae to its Perth office to lead the company’s expansion into the local mining and exploration sector.

Macrae is a former Opposition electoral officer and adviser to the Barnett Government, and joins CPR from the Australian Mining Review and theAustralian Oil & Gas Review, where he was deputy editor and editor.

He is one of the first appointments to the specialist government and media relations agency by incoming Managing Director, former Perth journalist Jayne Dullard.

“We have a strong reputation for our work nationally but Travis’s appointment marks a new level of commitment by CPR to Western Australian-based miners and explorers,” Ms Dullard said.

“We had a clear but ambitious ask of this recruitment process, because we needed someone with government, mining sector and media experience with an innate grasp of the integrated campaign model that is the heart of CPR’s offer.

“Travis ticks all the boxes. He’s a great addition to our national team, and with him on board we have ambitious plans for the growth of our Perth office.”

Macrae said CPR had an exciting brief to expand the breadth of advocacy, reputation and issues management services on local offer.

“CPR has a strong reputation in government relations and crisis management at the big end of town, but one of our strategies is to build up a product specifically for junior and mid-level miners and explorers,” Macrae said.

“Companies in this space tend not to put resources into media and stakeholder outreach until they’re actively seeking finance and approvals. We want to help them do it earlier, and better.

“Getting the jump on profile building is the smart way to do business in a competitive market.”

CPR employs 25 communications and government relations staff across its offices in Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide and Perth.

Jayne Dullard, the founding associate editor of Perth’s X-Press Magazine and a former ABC and Kalgoorlie Miner journalist, was manager of the company’s Melbourne office before her appointment as Managing Director in July.
