Ten-fold growth in last two years - the catalyst for move to larger office
Senator the Hon Richard Alston, Minister for Communications, Information Technology and the Arts will today open a new office in Canberra for EMC Corporation.
Over the past two years EMC has experienced a ten-fold revenue increase in the region, resulting in the relocation to a new office in the Canberra suburb of Kingston.
Steve Redman, Managing Director for EMC Australia and New Zealand said, "This significant increase in government sales represents the highest growth rate for EMC in any of our sectors in Australia."
"Whilst exponential growth has been the catalyst for relocating to larger premises in Kingston, the move also reflects the strategic importance of growing EMC's business in the government sector and the Canberra region. A new, larger facility will also help EMC continue to deliver the high levels of service that our customers expect."
Senator Alston awards EMC with Certificate of Recognition
As well as opening the new Canberra office, Senator Alston today presented EMC with a Certificate of Recognition. This award acknowledges EMC as a leading supplier of information storage systems and services in the Australian Information and Communications Technology sector since 1996.
The Certificate of Recognition is part of a broader policy the Australian Government has implemented over the past several years that is aimed at 'encouraging' multinational companies to undertake a range of industry development activities in Australia.
Senator Alston said, "EMC is a world leader in information storage systems software, networks and services, providing automated networked storage resolutions for organisations around the globe."
Key activities that have been undertaken by EMC in Australia include:
Asia Pacific Summit Centre (Enterprise)
Global Tech Support/Training Centre
Strategic Alliance with Australian companies.
"The Government will continue to ensure that the efforts of companies like EMC Australia that conduct ICT industry development activities in Australia are formally recognised for the role they plan in developing the sector," said Senator Alston.
Steve Redman, said, "On behalf of EMC Australia, I am delighted to accept this Certificate of Recognition from Minister Alston. It recognises the huge investment that EMC has made, and will continue to make, in providing Australian organisations with superior information storage technology and services.
"In addition to our global/regional support functions, EMC's industry development activities in Australia will continue to focus on providing ongoing technical support to our channel partners, many of who are Australian Small-to-Medium Enterprises," said Steve Redman.
Brian Evans, Sales Account Manager, EMC Australia said, "I am proud to be employed by an organisation that not only supports the development program but has committed resources, skills and infrastructure to Australia's ICT sector. Small-to-Medium Enterprises within the ACT and Australia wide will also benefit, not only from increased revenue but also from skills transfer and the ongoing commitment and backing from EMC."
EMC's channel partners applaud move
The move to larger premises has also been applauded by EMC's Canberra-based channel partners. Allan King, Managing Director at Infront Systems said, "This move reflects the success EMC has had in providing enterprise storage solutions to the government sector over the last two years. Customers will now have even greater confidence that their partnerships with EMC are strong, secure and well resourced."
David Cohen, Director of Networks and Communications at IPEX said, "Storage solutions are increasingly forming critical parts of government infrastructure. EMC's increased presence in Canberra is recognition of this fact and IPEX looks forward to an expanded relationship with EMC to meet these infrastructure requirements."
Michael Gration, Division Manager at Dimension Data said, "In our experience, direct engagement with government through a local presence is vital for companies serious about doing business in Canberra. EMC's investment in its new Canberra office will generate dividends for EMC and its partners, while providing a quality enterprise storage service to government."
EMC's Canberra office was established in 1995 with eight. Since then EMC has won the following government customers in the ACT region: Centrelink, Department of Defence, Computer Bureau, Australian Institute of Criminology, National Library of Australia, ActewAGL, Department of Treasury, Queanbeyan City Council, Comsuper, Australian Passports Office, Food Standards Australia, National Registration Authority and the Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry Australia.
