Hearts set to race in a Tour de Office for Diabetes

Announcement posted by Employment Office 18 Nov 2011

Brisbane-based recruitment marketing specialists Employment Office are getting ready to have their office invaded by an endless stream of sweaty cyclists wearing lycra – and they couldn’t be happier about it!

Employment Office will be hosting the inaugural SoreBums Cycling Challenge, a continuous, stationary cycle to raise $20,000 for Diabetes Queensland.
From Monday 21st of November to Friday 2nd of December, Employment Office employees, clients and guests will be getting out from behind their desks to complete a marathon 2,000km relay. Riders will take turns cycling 30 minute legs for 8 hours every day for two weeks, covering the distance from Brisbane to Cooktown.

A number of celebrity riders have confirmed they will be taking part, including Channel 7 QLD presenter Liz Cantor, celebrity chef Dominique Rizzo and radio personality Jamie Dunn.

Employment Office Managing Director Tudor Marsden-Huggins says the office is buzzing ahead of the SoreBums event, with the specially designed bike taking pride of place in the centre of the office.

“We wanted the bike to be set up in a place where the riders would be supported and could really feed off a positive atmosphere, so the centre of the office was an obvious choice.

“Employment Office is always on the lookout for new ways to support our local community, and this unique concept provides the perfect opportunity to get our staff, clients and the general public involved in a very worthy cause.

“We are calling for local businesses to get involved by sponsoring a team of employees. Colleagues can even watch the riders via the live web stream featured on the SoreBums website,” he said.

To donate or register to ride, simply visit www.sorebums.com.au. Here you can create your online profile to spread the word about your ride and start raising money! Donors can also track the progress of the riders via a live web stream featured on the Sore Bums website.

Diabetes Queensland will be directing all funds raised from this exciting World Diabetes Day fundraiser to its new ‘know the score’ type 2 awareness program. Diabetes Queensland is committed to reducing the incidence of diabetes through awareness, prevention, detection, management and the search for a cure.
