HAGEMEYER LAUNCHES THE NMS OPEN ACCESS

Announcement posted by Hagemeyer Communications 28 Jan 2004

Hagemeyer Communications, the telecommunications business unit of business-to-business (B2B) distribution services group Hagemeyer NV, today announced that the NMS Open Access framework is now available to the Australian, New Zealand and South Asian markets.

The NMS Open Access framework of products, platforms and services is a packaging of both existing and new solutions designed to ease development of new applications by service providers. With blades-to-system versatility and scalability, Open Access supports rich applications such as IP conferencing, speech-activated services and wireless entertainment content and applications.
The newest element of the Open Access framework is PacketMedia Host-based Media Processing (HMP) software. PacketMedia HMP gives developers and OEMs the flexibility to build media processing applications in a unified development environment and then run them on general-purpose PCs or Hagemeyers own digital signal processing platforms.
"We're seeing a shift in OEM vendors moving from hardware to software-based platforms," said Gerry Forsythe, Product Manager for Hagemeyer Communications. "Carriers want to spend more of their capital on versatile software rather than hardware because they want more flexibility in future service upgrades."
Open Access framework offers application developers and OEMs a broad range of delivery vehicles to match different business models. It uses open interfaces and supports industry standards, providing developers and OEMs the freedom to ship fully configured systems or software-only solutions using commercially available platforms.
Open Access also provides flexible, scalable hardware, software and systems wrapped with an open development environment. It provides accessibility at any point - from enabling technology, to modular application platforms, to system-level products - satisfying business and technology requirements in one cohesive model.
A wide range of voice and data solutions are already powered by Open Access:
Network Services. Powerful building blocks for carrier-grade network service applications like conferencing, directory assistance, announcements, prepaid calling, Internet call waiting, network call routing, mobile operator and fixed line caller entertainment such as NMS "MyCaller" and voice portals.
Messaging Solutions. >From simple voicemail to highly sophisticated unified communications that empower users to collaborate using real and non-real-time information and processes. Developers can quickly integrate new technologies and existing applications, and it provides a foundation for innovative new messaging services including multimedia messaging service (MMS) and video mail applications.
CRM and Business Communications. NMS solutions provide the foundation for IP-enabled and traditional PSTN CRM and business communications including call control, voice processing, and switching services, as well as fax, speech recognition, and conferencing at the individual port level.
Video Conferencing. Now that mobile technology includes support for multimedia capabilities, a wide range of new applications is possible including live and streaming video content. Open Access offers the solutions needed to deliver multimedia services in today's and tomorrows networks.
Voice Security. With the emergence of applications like homeland security, fraud protection and quality of customer service monitoring, voice surveillance and monitoring have become increasingly important in telecommunications networks. NMS Open Access products have key voice security capabilities for developers in both circuit-switched and more challenging packet environments. The solutions provide the ability to perform call recording, silent monitoring, and coaching through both PSTN and IP interfaces.
Media Servers. Open Access products simplify the deployment of TDM and IP Media servers, dramatically reducing the time to market. NMS offerings support media-intensive applications like IVR functions with simultaneous message play/record, DTMF tone handling, conferencing, fax, text-to-speech and speech recognition with full barge-in capabilities.
"With the telecommunications industry reawakening, companies that design, develop or deploy innovative solutions for the enterprise or network have tremendous opportunity ahead, Open Access speaks to both the business and technology needs they are facing," said Forsythe.
"The future proof architecture of Open Access enables the same hardware for IP and TDM applications for a true investment protection, developers can write applications once and then deploy on circuit, packet or hybrid networks with no rework required," he said.
