Veneziano a Winner in Regional Victoria

Announcement posted by Harvest Ideas 08 Dec 2011

Libby Caramia from Veneziano's client Switch Cafe & Bar, corner Ovens and Reid Streets Wangaratta, wins the Wangaratta Barista Competition on October 30, 2011. Libby is also the winner of the inaugural competition held in 2010 as part of the Wangaratta Italian festival.

Trained by Veneziano's Craig Simon and Erin Sampson, Libby used a blend that Craig helped her create and roast for the competition consisting of a micro lot Costa Rica Black Pearl, bringing strong notes of strawberries and cream, hazelnut, milk chocolate and a light body with high acidity, balanced out with a Brazil Canta Galo.

Competitors selected four mystery drink cards determining beverage types to prepare for the judges, with Libby selecting the difficult combination of latte, ristretto, long macchiato and long black, which she completed just within the allowable time frame.

Libby's set up consisted of a tablecloth and napkins in a funky, bright colour scheme and personal tasting notes for the judges.

This year's competition, arranged by Business Wangaratta and held in conjunction with the Wangaratta Jazz Festival, was made possible due to sponsorship from Grinders Coffee and GoTafe Wangaratta, with all cafes in the region invited to compete, and was judged by AASCA judge Richard Bradbury together with fellow head trainer from Grinders, Arch Giotopolous, as well as Sherren Tilson and Anissa Kay.
