Veneziano Cleans up at Golden Bean Roaster Awards

Announcement posted by Harvest Ideas 09 Dec 2011

Veneziano continues its 2011 success story by taking home an unbelievable eight medals from the weekend’s Golden Bean Roaster awards, held last weekend in Caloundra on Queensland’s Sunshine Coast.

This makes Veneziano Coffee the most awarded coffee company at a single Golden Bean event. The incredible medal win cements Veneziano's position as Australia's most awarded coffee company and further demonstrates its commitment to specialty coffee.

Medals were awarded in the following categories:
- gold medal for Single Origin (Kenyan Tinganga Estate)
- silver medal for Syphon (Kenyan Ichamara peaberry)
- silver medal for Milk (Bond Street seasonal blend)
- silver medal for Organic (Veneziano Pure blend)
- silver medals (2) for Chain Milk (Cafenatics & Nashi blends)
- silver medal for Chain Espresso (Cafenatics blend)
- bronze medal for Chain Espresso (Nashi blend)

Veneziano’s CEO Craig Dickson says, “I am completely blown away by this”, continuing that, “this is the result of an extraordinary team effort, something we’d hoped for but never imagined to this scale”.

“We’ve worked so hard to put the right team in place here at Veneziano, including everyone from the baristas at the First Pour, our roasting and production team, right through to our account managers and office staff”, says Craig.

Another familiar name in all of this is Craig Simon, known to date as the guy who won the 2012 Victorian Barista and Cup Tasting titles. Craig is one of Australia’s few licensed coffee Q Graders and Veneziano’s production manager, meaning he had a significant role to play in preparing Veneziano’s roasts for the Golden Bean competition.

Craig is the perfect example of Veneziano’s philosophy regarding support and development of its staff. Craig started with Veneziano as a barista in 2007, progressing to training manager and then, at his own request, moving into roasting and production.

“The company truly nurtures and supports us, believing in our abilities and I am extremely grateful for the opportunities I’ve been given”, says Craig Simon. The opportunities he refers to include sponsorship of personal development courses and visits to countries of origin to boost his knowledge of coffee production and harvesting.

“This has been a great year for Veneziano”, says Craig Dickson.

“We are looking forward to the Australian Coffee Championships in 2012, and we hope to be sending someone to the world competition in Vienna”.
