The French Cat competition, an initiative by Melbourne’s Francophile on-line publishers, My French Life Ma Vie Francaise, visually contrasts the daily pursuits of elegant cats in the region of Poitou-Charente in France and our own homegrown felines. The inspiration for the competition was Rachael McKenna’s recently released book THE FRENCH CAT, published by Hardie Grant Books, which is an atmospheric exploration of France and its felines by one of the world’s most successful animal photographers, Rachael McKenna.
In The French Cat, Rachael shares the heartwarming story of her young family’s move to France and uses her camera to explore the remarkable French landscapes both urban and rural, which were populated with cats brimming with personality… resulting in her exquisite book.
The French Cat book is the giveaway for the competition, which is directed at the Francophile community, booklovers, cat lovers and photographers. Through the My French Life facebook page readers have been challenged to tell and show the antics of their Ozzie moggies and they have definitely risen to the challenge with some amusing anecdotes and images.
Founder of My French Life, Judy McMahon said “ clearly we can’t replicate Rachael’s insight into the feline world and the ethereal charm of her images so we’ve decided to go to the opposite extreme and ask our readers to show us their zany cats. The competition runs until Friday, 16 December 2011.
