Coffey Projects recently completed delivery of a new and exciting food hall at The Galeries in Sydney's CBD

Coffey International Limited business, Coffey Projects, has recently completed delivery of a new and exciting food hall at The Galeries in Sydney’s CBD.

A once dull, underground environment has been transformed into a premium dining destination that is already attracting the city lunch-time crowd.

According to Project Director, Coffey Project’s Nelson Silva, “This had been traditionally a difficult retail space – a below-street location with very little natural light. We needed make it an inviting and easily accessible destination for diners, while working within the restraints of a complex fire engineered solution.

“Part of the solution was to include a new sculptural staircase to link the food hall to street level. This has had a dramatic effect, as well as being visually stunning; it has had a direct effect on patronage and access to the food court.

“The clever application of textured finishes and a layering of design and lighting elements has provided an upmarket feel, and created an uplifting, dynamic environment.”

“With the emergence of new retail centres and food offers in the CBD, there was a need to revitalise The Galeries to provide a unique offer and to maintain not only the existing patrons but also attract new customers.”

Coffey Projects took on a full project management role to deliver the food hall, which involved 20 months of planning and 5 months of construction, as well as the general upgrade to the retail arcade and signage. Bringing with them expertise in the areas of contract management, design development and consultant management, they were able to successfully refurbish the area without disrupting trade in the centre.

Coffey Projects has previously worked for centre owners, Ipoh Pty Ltd, on the major $40 million refurbishment of Sydney’s Queen Victoria Building and Chifley Plaza.

Mr Victor Gaspar, Group General Manager of Ipoh, spoke of their satisfaction with the results, “Coffey Projects has once again excelled, producing a fantastic result from a challenging project. We have been particularly delighted with Coffey’s drive and commitment.

“The project was completed on time, within budget and with minimal disruption to centre trading.”
