‘Sons of Alamo’ win dream gig at NSW Big Day Out!

Sydney, Australia, January 2012: The Big Day Out prides itself on presenting the most outstanding artists in the world, and the 2012 line up is no exception, with Motorola powering the online MySchoolAct competition, created exclusively for Australian high school students who live and breathe their music.

Five high school bands have been crowned winners of their respective state’s BDO this year, scoring a recording deal with Sony Music Entertainment to the value of $50,000 as well as being included in the lineup of Australia’s biggest touring music festival and sharing the stage with local and international talent including Soundgarden, Kanye West, My Chemical Romance and Foster the People.

Hailing from the Central Coast, the NSW state winner and runners-up in the grand final of the 2011 My School Act Competition - Sons Of Alamo consists of four musos that met through their love for music at Central Coast Grammar School.

The exciting four piece indie pop rock band comprises Jordan Fleming - singer/ guitarist; Rohan Fleming- bass/backing; Bryce Gleeson - lead guitarist/backing; William Hunt - drums/backing; forming in late 2009 headlining gigs in their area.

Sons of Alamo have just released their new 2011 EP "Send-Off&rsquo”, recording with Caravan Records&rsquo Sim and Rebecca Gilmour as well as a music video for their single 'Take It To The Water' (available on YouTube).

According to lead singer Jordan Fleming, the biggest stepping stone the band wanted to cross, was to appear on stage at Big Day Out – a dream they’re now about to conquer, thanks to the opportunity presented by Motorola’s MySchoolAct competition.

“Playing a Big Day Out gig with fellow Australian and international bands would blow our minds. Imagine the feeling of looking out and getting the music out. It would be more powerful than anything we can imagine – music wise.”

In addition to the bands, this year’s event features one of the largest custom built inflatable waterslides - the Motoslide, powered by Motorola. With a 12 metre climb to the Slide’s crow’s nest and a 55 metre runway, the Motoslide will be featured in all cities.

There will also be demonstrations of the new Motorola DEFY+ handset from qualified Motorola staff. DEFY+ has been designed for the biggest days out with dust and splash proof qualities.

Sons of Alamo will play NSW’s Sydney Big Day Out on 26 January 2012. -Ends-
