Subaru and Toyota add more 5-stars

Announcement posted by NRMA Motoring & Services 30 Jan 2012

NSW Roads and Maritime Services and NRMA Motoring & Services today released 5-star crash test ratings for the Subaru Impreza, the Subaru XV and the Toyota Camry.

NSW Centre for Road Safety Acting General Manager Marg Prendergast said anyone looking to purchase a Subaru or Toyota passenger car could do so with the confidence that there was a model with a 5-star ANCAP safety rating.

“It is encouraging that manufacturers like Subaru are achieving 5-stars for all the vehicles they produce for Australia,” Ms Prendergast said.

“The small car category is highly competitive and the Impreza’s 5-star rating will assist Subaru in this very popular part of the market.”

NRMA vehicle safety expert Jack Haley said the Impreza result also applied to the Subaru XV, a high-riding version of the Impreza.

“It is pleasing that both vehicles also scored highly for whiplash protection for the front seat occupants,” Mr Haley said.

“The new Toyota Camry has also performed very well in all crash tests and achieved a 5-star ANCAP rating, meaning Toyota has achieved 5-star ANCAP ratings for all its passenger car models.

“Both Subaru and Toyota now need to work on getting better ratings for pedestrian protection. Many manufacturers are now scoring in the top category for occupant protection but more attention must be paid to protecting pedestrians as well.”

ANCAP is supported by all Australian and New Zealand motoring clubs, the Australian Government, the New Zealand Government, all Australian state governments, the Victorian Transport Accident Commission, NRMA Insurance and the FIA Foundation.
