D-Link announces new broadband gateways to share and protect DSL and cable Internet connections

Announcement posted by D-Link Australia 21 Jun 2002

With built-in print server, firewall and 4-port or 7-port switch
D-Link, a designer and manufacturer of networking, connectivity and communications technologies, is now shipping two new broadband gateways for DSL and cable modems to home and small business users in Australia and New Zealand.
The D-Link DI-704P and DI-707P broadband gateways allow multiple computers connected to a local area network (LAN) to share a single broadband connection, whether Ethernet cable or DSL. Both products include a parallel port for connecting a printer and act as a print server, so that all users on the network can share resources and print to the same printer. They also act as a natural firewall between a local network and the Internet.
"With broadband becoming more and more popular, it is essential to have some protection for your computer from the outside world," said Graeme Reardon, business development manager for telecommunications with D-Link Australia and New Zealand. "The DI-704P and DI-707P are bargain-priced products packed with useful features that are easy to set up and use."
Share A Single Internet Connection With Up To 253 Users
Customers can choose from either a 4-port or 7-port switch to allow immediate creation of a LAN by connecting either four or seven PCs. For home users who want to share Internet access with up to four devices, the DI-704P is ideal. The DI-707P is designed for small business users wanting to connect up to seven computers instantly. There is no need to purchase extra networking hubs or switches. However, should more PCs be required, users can expand their LAN by connecting a hub or switch to one of the ports. The Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) feature provides dynamic allocation of IP addresses for up to 253 clients (computers) on the local network.
Easy To Set Up
Simply connect the xDSL or cable modem to the WAN port, and connect up to 4 or 7 PCs or servers to the LAN ports, and the D-Link broadband gateway will automatically adjust itself to many of the settings. Web-based configuration allows users to follow simple instructions to configure the gateway to their ISP settings and instantly share high-speed Internet access.
Security Features
The D-Link DI-704P and DI-707P offer two levels of security for protecting a user's network. Firstly, masking local users' IP addresses from others on the Internet makes it more difficult for hackers to target a machine on the local network. The gateway can also block and redirect certain ports to limit the services that outside users can access. Specific ports can then be opened by the user to ensure that games and other Internet applications can pass through.
Price and Availability
The D-Link DI-704P and DI-707P are available now through authorised D-Link resellers and distribution partners.
DI-404P and DI-707P is part of a promotion ending September 2002, please contact D-Link for further information on +61 2 9417 7100 or see their website: www.dlink.com.au.
