Cameron Craig, Director of WhistleOut, says: “While some of Telstra’s plans are more expensive than their existing ADSL2+ price points, both Telstra and Optus have produced plans that are in line with their existing high speed cable offerings of 100mps, providing the most accurate comparisons to today’s broadband environment.”
Presently, Telstra and Optus offer limited distribution of HFC Cable in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane which run at up to 100Mbps downstream and 2Mbps upstream with the following plan comparisons to the NBN:
• The existing HFC Optus plan for 120GB of usage on this connection is $69.99 - the same price for the NBN with a 100Mbps down / 40Mbps upload connection, a considerably faster upload speed.
• Similarly, the existing Telstra 100Mbps offer for 50GB of usage is $91.90 - the same price for the NBN with a 100Mbps / 40Mbps connection, albeit with a $349 installation fee.
As an entry level product, Telstra has just announced a 5GB NBN home phone bundle price plan for $80 per month at 25mps that includes a home phone calling plan (copper line access).
“The NBN will rocket through your data allowance much faster than ADSL2+. No other telco is offering a plan as small as 5GB per month. It's confusing why they'll offer such a small plan on the NBN at such a high price,” says Cameron.
Here’s how all current the price plans for the NBN compare.
