Datacom Ranked Among Most Trusted Cloud Providers in Australia

Announcement posted by Datacom 01 Mar 2012

Sydney – 1 March 2012 - In just 12 months Australasian-owned professional IT services company Datacom has gained a top three place in the Longhaus list of most trusted Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) Cloud Providers, signifying a quantum leap for the company which last year rated in the top 25. Datacom also won the 2012 award for best local provider of IaaS Cloud Services.

Longhaus released the results of their Cloud Pulse report on March 1st, which looked at 175 organisations in Australia signalling a capability to provide Cloud IaaS services. 46 organisations were studied in-depth. The Longhaus Pulse determines the relative strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats for service providers within Australia and defines trusted IaaS as demand elastic, self-service server processing or storage capacity provided using a pool of shared computing resources owned by the cloud provider.

Key to Datacom’s success this year has been: establishing significant clients in the cloud; improvement in time to provision; purpose built cloud contracts; and robust service level agreements along with distinct clarity over what the Datacom Cloud Services solution is.

Datacom Investments Director, Mark McWilliams, said “we are delighted that our focus on developing and delivering enterprise grade Cloud services to the high growth Australian and New Zealand markets has received this significant recognition from the widely used Longhaus analysis. Our concerted effort in building out our local nodes, developing solid partnerships and winning ground-breaking Cloud work, like the10 year NZ Government IaaS contract, has lifted us to a new level of performance and maturity in the last 12 months”.

‘Datacom’s rise signifies a true first mover status for a strong managed services vendor in Australia and New Zealand into the cloud vendor business model. With this result they have put many questions to bed in 2012 about how successful traditional service firms will be in the new cloud market,” said Longhaus Managing Director Peter Carr.

Datacom hosts cloud services in Australia from its on-shore Sydney and Melbourne data centres <http://www.datacom.com.au/Solutions/Managed-Services/Data-Centres-(1)> , and in New Zealand from its three on-shore data centres in Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch. The rollout of these services to Brisbane and Perth data centres is imminent. Sights are also set in Canberra where Datacom has developed a strong footprint with federal government. The addition of another new purpose-built data centre in Hamilton, New Zealand will further extend the company’s capacity to meet its cloud services growth of 15% per month.  Independently-owned Datacom sources the technology to operate its cloud services from Cisco, EMC, HP, IBM, Microsoft, NetApp, Symantec and VMware.
