CBO Telecommunications to deploy MESH network for mine site automation project for Leica Geosystems Mining

Announcement posted by CBO Telecommunications 05 Mar 2012

CBO Telecommunications has been commissioned by Leica Geosystems Mining to design and implement a wireless LAN solution for their Jigsaw Fleet Management System (JFleet). The JFleet system will be operating at two open cut mine sites in the Bowen Basin, Queensland.

The Leica Jigsaw Fleet Management System (Jfleet) operates on a distributed database architecture to provide comprehensive fleet management and production optimization. A highly intelligent system, Jfleet is not reliant on a central server, with each machine (dump trucks, graders, loaders, etc) automatically tracking and logging their own current activity, position and status. In this manner, Leica Jfleet provides accurate reporting, optimization of fleet movement, KPI’s and position of equipment – all in real-time.

CBO provided a solution that will see an outdoor Wireless MESH network at both mines sites based on CISCO MESH technology supported by Cambium Networks Point to Point link infrastructure which will improve the networks coverage.

Over 20 of CBO’s The Edge – Solar Mobility Trailers will have CISCO 1522 MESH Access Points mounted to them and placed throughout the two mine sites. These mobility trailers have 3 x 135w solar panels and 480Ah battery capacity which will power the MESH access points. A diesel generator will also be provided on a skid for a permanent MESH communications site.

Said Mark McGregor, Managing Director of CBO Telecommuncations “Having the MESH access points on the mobility trailers provides flexibility for the network to evolve as the trailers can be relocated when required to accommodate changes in the physical environment such as locations of stockpiles obstructing the link line of sight, or changes in the operational areas within the mine sites and therefore the location of fleet vehicles requiring wireless connectivity.”

Leica Geosystems Mining says they engaged CBO Telecommunications to provide the MESH network because CBO utilised the latest generation technology and were expert in its function and deployment.

Mark McGregor, CBO Telecommunications Managing Director says “We have been working with Leica Geosystems Mining for over many months to ensure that the design of this MESH network will work seamlessly with their Jigsaw Fleet Management System. It’s an exciting project for CBO and one that we are really looking forward to seeing the results of.”

The project commenced in February 2012 with completion due by June 2012.
