Varsity Lakes QLD, 29 March 2012 – DAT Media has successfully installed a living surface interactive system in the new BIG W Canberra Airport store which opened today. The 2.4 x 1.8m floor projection, located in the main aisle near the toy department, features custom BIG W branding which can be swept aside via gestural movement to reveal supplier brands and special offers.

“Working with BIG W who are extremely customer focussed, enables us to implement exciting new digital projects that enhance the shopping experience.” said Andrew Becker, Managing Director at DAT Media.

DAT Media, who specialise in digital in-store solutions predominantly for the retail channel, see the new technology as an opportunity for retailers and shopping centre managers to generate foot traffic to their locations in the on-going battle of bricks and mortar stores versus online.

“Our charter is to assist clients enhance their brand offerings by creating unique experiences and reasons for consumers to visit stores” Andrew Becker continued. “living surface is used by multi-national brands including Coca-Cola, Epson, Toyota, Heineken, Samsung, Walt Disney, Universal Studios, Madam Tussauds and Nestle amongst others, to create new and innovative mechanisms for brand interaction and consumer engagement.”

“Some retailers are looking at living surface as a key differentiator and a way of generating increased store traffic. The need to create a destination and a reason for consumers to visit physical stores is now critical for bricks and mortar retailers given the web provides such broad access to price and ranging options. Retailers know they need to provide customers with an engaging and rewarding experience in-store plus a reason to return, living surface helps achieve that” he added.

What is itliving surface are breath-taking touchlessinteractive surfaces with lively content you can touch, experience and play around with. Digital creatures swim, hop or fly on the floor, wall, ceiling or table, always responding to the movements of all persons participating. Logos are easily built into the system, allowing for unique brand interaction and recall.

Why people love itliving surface is an innovative medium that turns the observer into a participant. This magical interaction with a world of images appeals to the senses and awakens the emotions.

Advertising messages can be communicated in a playful way, and the recall effect of living surface is verifiably stronger than that of conventional advertising media.

How it works…the interactive experience results from a projection onto any sort of surface (floor, wall, table, ceiling, etc.) and the recognition of the participants on the ‘playing surface’ by a small observation camera. Along with projectors, living surface also can be featured on LCD and plasma screens, providing a myriad of options for deployment.

Digital media is the future of out-of-home advertising and marketing communications at the point of sale. In terms of recollection and perception, interactive advertising with living surface outperforms all existing types of outdoor advertising.
