Information Lifecycle Management (ILM) implications of new technology
While the underlying concepts of ILM and Data Lifecycle Management are not new, using them as a process for planning and improving communications between IT and the lines of business is. New technologies and products being delivered by storage hardware and software vendors are expanding the available options to manage data throughout its lifecycle. However, these also bring new challenges as more complex environments require better management tools to control spiralling management costs.
* Using ILM as a model for managing an organisations information
* Relying on business requirements of effectiveness (business continuity) and efficiency (total cost of ownership).
* Managing the new business drivers and regulations that have added new requirements to the different data types of information that must be stored
