Scoopon customers reap $650M in savings

Celebrates 2 years of delivering great deals to shoppers

13 April 2012, Melbourne, Australia: Coupon and deal addicts have saved over $650M through heavily incentivised offers on Australia's leading group buying site Scoopon, which celebrates its second birthday today.

Since its launch in April 2010, Scoopon has sold over 3.5 million coupons and has helped over 5,000 suppliers and merchants connect with its 2 million strong subscriber base across Australia.

“Consumers are increasingly value conscious and turning online in search of better deals. Our aim is to meet their appetite for a bargain with unique experiences and exciting offers which give them a reason to come back for more,” explains Jon Beros, general manager of sales at Scoopon.

It has been a huge two years for the group-buying site. Its national footprint has grown to nine locations, it has launched a chart topping iPhone and Android shopping app, and it has delivered strong revenue growth in a fiercely competitive market. All this has enabled Scoopon to retain its position as market leader, which Beros attributes to the company’s focus on deal quality over quantity, an organic and loyal membership base, as well as an industry leading commission structure.

“Our main competitors have huge expenses and it's the deal providers, the small businesses that feature with them, that end up paying for it through very high commissions and complicated contracts. We offer the most competitive commission structure and best value, which is one reason why most of the businesses who feature with us tend to do repeat business,” said Beros.

National deals and partnering with major and trusted brands will continue to be a key focus in 2012. Scoopon’s recent record breaking promotion with Hungry Jack’s saw 675,000 $2 Whopper and fries meal deals sold in 48 hours, proving to be a winning formula for the business.

Beros says other deal highlights have been selling in a period of 24 hours:

- 20,000 Movie Tickets

- 20,000 Pillows

- 10,000 Paintball deals

- 5,000 Melbourne sight seeing deals

To celebrate its second birthday, Scoopon is bringing back all of the most popular deals that have featured on the site over the past two years with a special birthday promotion starting noon Friday 13 April and running all weekend.
