Westpac outsources cards processing

Announcement posted by Westpac 01 Oct 2002

Westpac Banking Corporation today announced it had signed an agreement with First Data Australia to provide a managed service for its cards processing.
The $100 million multi-year agreement will see First Data international card and merchant services division assume responsibility for Westpac's Australasian cards processing in phases from October 2002. Westpac will retain control of its cards sales, credit, collections and customer service back office functions in New Zealand and Australia.
Westpac expects to redeploy 25 affected staff and Westpac cards customers will be unaffected by the new arrangement.
Group Executive, Business and Technology Services, Michael Coomer, said the agreement would team Westpac's superior customer service capabilities with First Data's world-class cards processing.
"Westpac's decision to outsource cards processing to First Data will allow Westpac to take advantage of the latest trends in card processing and marks our commitment to being the best card provider in the market," he said.
The IT infrastructure for the new service will be consolidated in Australia and will be provided by IBM GSA under the existing outsourcing arrangement.
"First Data has the card processing experience and market leading technology to ensure our customers continue to enjoy the highest levels of service," Mr Coomer said.
