Entries open today for the world’s largest run and Sydney’s favourite sporting event, The Sun-Herald City2Surf presented by Westpac.

A record crowd of more than 85,000 runners, joggers, walkers and pram pushers are expected to turn out from across Australia on Sunday, August 12.

Organisers are encouraging everyone wanting to take part in this iconic Sydney event to register early, as places are likely to fill within weeks.

A key part of the City2Surf is fundraising and those taking part are encouraged to make their efforts even more worthwhile by raising money for a cause close to their hearts.

Participants can choose from a list of more than 650 charities to run and raise funds for. Last year the City2Surf raised more than $3.8m for charity and this year the target has been set at $5m, which the event is well on its way to achieve with $65,000 already raised before entries open.

“It’s a day of great fun and sporting excellence but also a chance to really help people, which has always made City2Surf such a wonderful community event,” said race director Fred Taylor.

Entrants will be joined by a number of high-profile ambassadors, including Michelle Bridges, Manu Feildel and Laura Dundovic. For a comprehensive list of ambassadors please visit the website city2surf.com.au.

Early bird entries are $60 for adults, with registrations after June 2 priced at $75.
