FIRST MAJOR AUSTRALIAN IT OUTSOURCER TO BE CERTIFIED IN GLOBALLY RECOGNISED STANDARD FOR IT SERVICE MANAGEMENT

Announcement posted by Computer Sciences Corporation (CSC) 17 Jan 2006

Certification provides a best practice guide to IT Service Management
CSC Australia is the first major IT outsourcing organisation in Australia to achieve the AS8018.1-2004 Standard for IT Service Management.
AS8018.1-2004 (equivalent to the British BS15000) is derived from the IT Infrastructure Library (ITIL), which is recognised as industry best practice for IT Service Management. AS8018.1-2004 is a world wide standard that recognises an organisation has established an integrated set of management processes for the effectivedelivery of services to its customers.
During September and early October 2005, Lloyds Register Quality Assurance conducted assessments across CSC globally. As part of this, CSC Australia was assessed against ISO 9001:2000 and A8018.1-2004. The assessment involved the review of CSC Australias Leadership, Account Management, Global Infrastructure Services and Global Transformation Solutions practices.
Discussing the significance of this announcement, Mike Shove, CEO, CSC Australia, stated: This certification highlights CSCs ability to provide customers with a set of management processes for the effective delivery of services. As the first major IT outsourcer in Australia to be certified it provides a significant benefit to current and potential customers as the ITIL push grows within the industry.
As demonstrated in Europe there are increasing pressures on service providers to become A8018.1-2004 certified," said Steve Bittinger, Research Director, Gartner. "The same pressures are beginning to resonate here in Australia. CSC has taken the lead in becoming the first large scale Australian IT service provider to become certified."
This new certificate represents another significant step in CSCs plans to have all services certified globally. CSC already holds certificates covering India and the UK and plans to cover its main centres of business in Europe by 2006 followed the US. CSC believes it is unique in the IT Service Industry in its approach of certifying all services in a region rather than cherry-picking specific functions or customers to be assessed.
