CALLING ALL PHOTOGRAPHERS

June 13, 2012: Entries have flooded into this year’s The Sydney Morning Herald Photos 1440 Challenge 2012, with more than two weeks remaining before registrations close on June 28.

“The response to this year’s call for entries has been fantastic, but there is still time for photographers to register their entries before the June 28 deadline,” Sydney Morning Herald Managing Editor of Photography, Sandra Harrison, said.

The Sydney Morning Herald Photos1440 Challenge gives entrants the chance to experience life as a photo journalist.

The theme of the Challenge derives from the fact there are 1440 minutes in a day, and in those minutes photographers capture a moment.

By registering in the Challenge, entrants become eligible to have their photos published in The Sydney Morning Herald, smh.com.au and the SMH iPad app and could win a Canon EOS 5D Mark III Premium Kit (includes EF24-105mm f/4.0L IS lens) valued at $5,499.

On registering, entrants are emailed three photographic briefs and have until July 15 to submit their photos. The briefs are open to interpretation and will be judged on originality, composition, photographic technique and the entrants’ ability tell a story through their photograph.

Each entrant may submit a total of three photos, one photo per brief, and every entry will be considered for the prize pool.

“The Photos1440 Challenge provides a great opportunity for photographers at any level of experience to submit their work and have the chance to see it published in the Herald, a newspaper renowned globally for its photo journalism,” Harrison said.

Harrison is a member of the judging panel of the 2012 Photos1440 Challenge, and is joined by internationally acclaimed photographer Stephen Dupont and Sydney Morning Herald Chief Photographer Brendan Esposito.
