IPART CONFIRMS RECORD BREAKING JULY 1 ENERGY PRICE INCREASES
NSW Home owners and businesses slugged by 18% increase
Sydneysider and Country NSW customers hit with over 20% electricity price hike
Average increases of $333 per annum, with highest increases over $400 pa
Sydney, 13 June 2012: Today, the Independent Pricing and Regulatory Tribunal (IPART) has finally announced an average price increase of 18.1% for NSW families and business owners
Sydneysiders in particular will be slammed by extraordinary price hikes – pushing families to the financial brink.
Electricity specialist Tim Wolfenden, Managing Director www.makeitcheaper.com.au believes the government should be ashamed of imposing such extraordinary price hikes.
“These price increases are higher than the previous guestimate issued by IPART, are they are going to drive home owners and businesses into financial ruin.’ he says.
“Over the past 30 years NSW governments have serially underinvested in the electricity infrastructure, and now we are all paying the price.”
“Don’t just accept that you have to pay more,” Wolfenden urges. “NSW is a highly competitive pricing environment and there are lots of good deals out there if you look for them. Some families may still be able to save up to $100 per year on their electricity bill if they take action now,” he says.
Increases for the different supply areas:
Country Energy 19.7% on average, which translates to:
o $8.21 per week ($427 per annum, inc GST) on an average residential customer bill; and
o $10.67 per week ($555 per annum, ex GST) on an average small business customer bill
Integral Energy 11.8% on average, which translates to:
o $4.00 per week ($208 per annum, inc GST) on an average residential customer bill; and
o $5.19 per week ($270 per annum, ex GST) on an average small business customer bill
EnergyAustralia 20.6% on average, which translates to:
o $7.00 per week ($364 per annum, inc GST) on an average residential customer bill
o $9.07 per week ($472 per annum, ex GST) on an average small business customer bill
