iPads make for paperless performance reviews at RedBalloon

Efficiency is the name of the game for top employer RedBalloon
Online experience retailer and credited best employer redballoon.com.au has implemented an entirely paperless performance review process, thanks to iPads being rolled out to all 60 employees.
The iPad became company policy and part of the RedBalloon tool set in August 2011, and has since signalled a raft of changes in how the company operates.
According to RedBalloon Employee Experience Manager and Australian Human Resources Institute HR Practitioner of the Year 2011 Megan Bromley, “These devices have revolutionised the way we conduct our day-to-day business”.
“From more efficient meetings to FaceTime with employees working remotely, and now paperless performance reviews, the iPads have been the single most effective productivity tool we have ever introduced at RedBalloon,” Ms Bromley said.
“Gone are the days of spending hours printing reams of paper and fiddling with convoluted powerpoint presentations, or trying to avoid confidentiality breaches when an employee’s review or salary information is left sitting on the printer.
“Employees provide their personal feedback and 360 degree reviews through an online portal, these are delivered to managers for comment and sign off, and this content is discussed during the pay and performance review meetings attended by all 60 employees throughout July.
“Not a single piece of paper is required throughout the whole process. We even sign off on the new financial year commitments electronically.
“This is the first performance review cycle we’ve conducted with the iPad on hand, and the whole process is now much simpler, more sophisticated and personal – instead of flicking through slides on screen or pages of paperwork, we can sit face to face and have a genuine conversation about that person’s performance.
“And it’s entirely portable – we could do reviews at the coffee shop if we wanted to.”
