Metro Ethernet Forum complience for Vertel
Vertel, Australia’s leading Carrier Grade Ethernet over microwave network provider, is the first independent wireless carrier in the world to gain MEF (Metro Ethernet Forum) compliance for its Layer 2 Ethernet Service (Etherwave CEVPN.)

"We at the MEF are very pleased to see this industry first by Vertel of certification of Carrier Ethernet services deployed over microwave infrastructure," said Eric Puetz, Co-chair MEF Certification Committee and Director at AT&T. "We welcome this certification as an important accelerator for Carrier Ethernet service adoption in countries that otherwise would need landline infrastructure rollout."

The MEF, is the defining body for Carrier Ethernet is a global industry alliance comprising more than 195 organisations including the NBN Co. With Ethernet becoming the ubiquitous standard for network service connectivity worldwide revenues for business services alone are forecast to reach $40.2billion by 2014 (Source: ENS Research Programs)

The alignment of Vertel’s services to this global standard and investment in upgrading the entire national network using MEF certified hardware (Alcatel Lucent, Aviat Networks and Telco Systems) begun late 2010. The roll-out was concluded with the successful 44 site upgrade of the SWARH regional Health network in Victoria earlier this year.

Andrew Findlay, Vertel’s Managing Director said “gaining MEF certification further reinforces our positions as a premium provider of mission critical wireless infrastructure and associated services for carriers, government and enterprise organisations”

Vertel’s achievements have already been recognised by their industry peers having been shortlisted as a finalist at the ACOMM Telecommunications Awards (Innovation Category). The winner will be announced in late July.

Vertel’s Etherwave CPE VPN is delivered over carrier and enterprise grade microwave access and a hybrid microwave / fibre optic IP MPLS core. The service enables MEF defined E-Line, E-LAN and E-Tree connectivity and is ideally suited for network access, backhaul, diversity, virtual private networks and high speed internet.
