Australians Soar in World Gliding Competitions

Podium spot a real possibility
Whilst world's eyes have been on the drama of the Olympics anotherdrama is unfolding in world competition involving Australian athletes.The World Gliding Championships are being held in Uvalde, Texas withAustralia represented in the 15m, 18m and Open Class categories.

Husband and wife team, Lisa and Peter Trotter are representingAustralia in the 15m class, with both pilots competing at the sametime.

Qantas Pilots, David Jansen and Tom Claffey are representing Australiain the 18m class, Tom is supported by his wife Kerrie who is acompetition glider pilot in her own right having represented Australiain the cross Tasman Trophy with NZ.

Also, Bruce Taylor and Brad Edwards are representing Australia in theOpen Class. Bruce is supported by his wife Anita, who is also thecurrent President of the Gliding Federation of Australia.

The competition started on July 28 and finishes on Aug 19. As at theend of Day 11 in the competition, with three more days to run:

15 Metre (37 pilots)
23 - Lisa Trotter
24 - Peter Trotter

18 Metre (35 pilots)
9 - Tom Claffey
13 - David Jansen

21 Metre (26 pilots)
6 - Bruce Taylor
10 - Brad Edwards

There is a strong possibility of a podium position coming from some of theseplacings and we are hopeful of this outcome. The points difference between all the pilots is low and all it will take is one of the leaders to have a lower performing day.More details can be foundat: http://wgc2012uvalde.com
