Unique New Approach to e-Learning Wins Again

Scenario Training Software Wins Australian ICT Innovation Award

Sydney, Australia, 22 August, 2012 – Avalias, winners of the prestigiousNSW iAward fore-Learningin July this year for their Avalanche ST Scenario Training System, have gone on to win the e-Learning category at the National iAwards in Melbourne.

Avalanche ST is a unique scenario training software platform that realistically simulates any work environment. It simulates a person’s communication devices as well as any software applications specific to their roles, allowing individuals or groups across multiple roles to practise all aspects of their response to various scenarios without affecting live systems, and removing the need to maintain multiple separate “sandbox” software training environments.

Unlike other e-Learning platforms, Avalanche ST has the unique ability to combine instructional content and a collaborative virtual environment into one simple-to-use e-Learning system. Avalanche ST training scenarios are built by trainers in a drag-and-drop scenario design environment, eliminating the need to employ programmers to construct scenarios. This means that the fully interactive scenarios can be designed by people who know and understand the role for which the training scenario is intended.

Avalanche ST is able to simulate the real-life complexities of any role, presenting the participant with competing priorities and distractions common to the role for which they are training. This represents a huge improvement over conventional e-Learning platforms, which generally focus on training individual tasks, and require technical skills to create anything more than basic instructional content.

John Cowan, the National Network Manager of Telstra’s Radio and Emergency Managed Services (REMS) group throughout the award-winning project describes the Avalanche ST platform as “a truly innovative solution to complex training problems”.

“Avalanche ST has allowed the Telstra Radio and Emergency Managed Services group to train and test time-critical functions and multiple software applications simultaneously. The software offers an approach to training that recognises that people’s roles are not simply comprised of individual tasks, but involve multiple aspects, including communications, prioritisation, complex software systems and human interactions.”

Cowan added, “This is one of the most exciting and significant new innovations in e-Learning and will help many organisations take their skill development and accuracy to a new level.”

Dave Wolpert, Avalias co-founder and lead architect of the software, said “We are very proud that Avalanche ST has been recognised for the great benefits it is bringing to the emergency services sector, who have some of the most stringent demands on getting things right first time. This revolutionary approach to e-Learning also meets the needs of many other industries and organisations who seek to improve their capabilities and performance, spanning both government and the private sector.”

The National iAwards is Australia’s leading technology awards program recognising the most innovative companies and leading individuals across 25 categories. Nominees for the award consisted of winners of the State and Territory iAwards earlier in the year.

Avalias will go on to represent Australia along with the best innovators in the Asia Pacific ICT community at the APICTA Awards being held in Brunei at the end of the year.
