Enterasys Networks announces technology partnership with SpectraLink to deliver Wireless Voice Over IP

Announcement posted by Enterasys Networks 03 May 2001

Enterasys Networks has announced that its award-winning RoamAbout' AP 2000 will support SpectraLink Voice Priority (SVP) to support SpectraLink's NetLink Wireless Telephone System (NetLink WTS). This integration will add simultaneous support for voice and data to the RoamAbout line, and enable enterprise customers to maximise the value of their wireless LAN investment.

"Enterasys and SpectraLink can now offer a solution that helps customers to leverage their investment in their wireless LAN infrastructure to support both voice and data," said Mike Cronin, vice president of sales and marketing for SpectraLink." Because Enterasys has embraced SpectraLink Voice Priority, customers now have access to the high-quality Voice-over-IP solution they have been asking for."

SpectraLink's NetLink WTS product is based on its SpectraLink Voice Priority (SVP) technology, and is fully compatible with the IEEE 802.11b standard for data transmission used by RoamAbout. SVP prioritises voice IP packets with
minimal impact on throughput for data services, and helps deliver excellent voice quality on converged wireless networks.

"This is an exciting opportunity for our customers to take advantage of the integration of best-in-breed technology and solutions. SpectraLink's NetLink WTS brings a whole new value dimension to mobility in the enterprise by providing telephony for wireless LANs," said Ian Fewtrell, managing director of Enterasys Networks.

Enterasys' RoamAbout solutions include standards-based (Wi-FiTM certified) wireless LAN and network-to-network bridging functionality for both indoor and outdoor environments, including radio cards, a versatile access point,
and a variety of antenna options. For more information on RoamAbout solutions, visit Enterasys' web site at www.enterasys.com/roamabout. Enterasys is a member of the Wireless LAN Association (WLANA) and the
