PROJECT WOW Water Festival - Thursday 13 September 5 – 9pm

Announcement posted by LOCKE pty ltd 05 Sep 2012

Comprising ‘Water’ inspired creative activities, film screenings, art exhibition, art auction, performances, food & drink, the Water Festival celebrates the world’s most precious resource, the only one we truly cannot live without .

In planning for over twelve months, the Project WOW Water Festival is the inaugural celebration of water in the Marrickville region.

Comprising ‘Water’ inspired creative activities, film screenings, art exhibition, art auction, performances, food & drink, the Water Festival celebrates the world’s most precious resource, the only one we truly cannot live without .

Not only is it designed to celebrate water and its impact in our lives, it also draws attention to the need for Marrickville residents to improve their mindfulness of water, as currently less than 2% of all water available is consumed by residents.

While local community groups and individuals have been working hard on this event, Marrickville West Primary School has viewed it as so important it has developed a complete semester’s curriculum around it.

"Authentic learning is a powerful way to meaningfully engage students in the curriculum”, explains Ruth Bradfield Ling, Principal of Marrickville West Primary School.

“With the vision of Project WOW, our school has contextualised a range of subjects including Science, English, Maths, Art and HSIE, within the study of our relationship with the Cooks River.  With the help of local community members from Project WOW, students are reflecting and exploring their local environment, while developing skills, knowledge and understandings about living and working in the Riverside Subcatchment and surrounding areas of the Cooks River.””

Vanessa Hyde, the project co-ordinator said that the event “will be a wonderful evening, full of fun and creativity, with something for every age. It’s a free event and the whole community is invited, so if you are free next Thursday evening, drop in.”
