Datacom joins TEDxCanberra and embraces an optimistic challenge

Announcement posted by Datacom Systems Pty Ltd 05 Sep 2012

Australasian-owned professional IT service provider Datacom is partnering with sold out event, TEDxCanberra, showcasing its focus on people, the community and charity work.

“Being approached by TEDxCanberra to be a partner at this year’s event has been a great privilege.  Here at Datacom we are known for our ICT technology solutions and our project and managed services.  TEDxCanberra is a great opportunity to also present Datacom’s company ethos and community initiatives,” noted Lisa Thorburn, Director of Datacom Systems (ACT),  “Datacom has a strong sense of corporate social responsibility that supports a very active local and international Community and Social Responsibility programme, which asks all of our businesses and their employees, to support charity and local community initiatives along with the call for emergency needs in our region”.

Datacom recently announced a strong successful trading year with profit after tax increasing from $22 million to $25 million across the Group, with just under 2% of that going to various community initiatives.

As a member of the London Benchmarking Group, Datacom places considerable emphasis on corporate and social responsibility, contributing $436,000 in 2011-2012 into multiple community programs across Australia, New Zealand and Asia including schools in Ecuador, cancer research, Computer Technology Centres in Asia and as one of the primary partners with the Australian Federal Police in the education of cyber security for children and parents through the ThinkUKnow program.

Ms Thorburn added “Datacom believes that connecting with our community engages our staff, our organisation and our clients.  This keeps us connected, builds team spirit and boosts productivity.  We are optimistic about the future and strongly believe in the TEDx philosophy.”
TEDxCanberra Creative Catalyst and Curator, Stephen Collins said “We like to think of our event as a community – presenters, volunteers, attendees and partners. Without this community, and the generous support of partners like Datacom, TEDxCanberra could not have evolved as the capital’s innovative ideas event.

“Our partners share with us a commitment to spreading ideas not only here in the nation’s capital but globally,” Mr Collins added.
