Majoran Distillery co-working space, attracting top entrepreneurs, set to launch with a bang!

Announcement posted by Majoran Distillery Limited 11 Sep 2012

Top entrepreneurs congregate in Adelaide for the launch of the first co-working space
Adelaide's first, private, co-working space, the Majoran Distillery, is set to launch this Friday. The space, which attracted twelve, high-calibre businesses as members even before its official opening, was founded by young entrepreneurs Chhai Thach, Michael Reid and William Chau. The space is located at Level 2, 186 Pulteney St in the heart of Adelaide's CBD.

The current members range from iPhone app workshops, to a relocated Sydney startup that sources quotes from tradespeople and even a startup Venture Capital fund.

Thach believes innitiatives like this will build the Adelaide tech startup eco-system more rapidly than previous State-led activity. Thach and his co-founders' ultimatly want to make Adelaide the hub for Australian internet startups to create jobs and a future for the State as the mining boom draws to a close.

"This is only our second month in operation and we've already received tremendous support from the Adelaide community", said Thach. "These businesses had previously been working in isolation as solo-preneurs or small teams at home or coffee shops. Having a space like this brings people together to build something bigger and stronger for everyone.”

Special guests for Friday's launch include top Sydney entrepreneur Alan Jones. Jones recently invested in ScriptRock, which also counts PayPal co-founder Peter Theil amongst it's investors, and Adelaide's own Jindou Lee will also be there. Lee co-founded Happy Inspector which recently attended high-profile Silicon Valley incubator 500startups and closed an undisclosed round of investment. Lee has rescheduled his current series of Australian meetings specifically to be at the launch.

The benefits of co-working spaces include the opportunity for collaboration amongst the community atmosphere as well as the ability to take advantage of facilities normally reserved for larger offices, but at a fraction of the price. It's for this reason, these types of spaces have grown so popular recently.

“The co-working concept has exploded all over the world in the last couple of years but Adelaide had none. We could have gone interstate to build our businesses but instead we thought why not start our own?”, said Thach. The non-profit organisation has already outgrown it's current space and is on the hunt for bigger premises and is seeking investment to help it expand the concept.
