Announcement posted by SurfControl 22 Mar 2006
Global internet content protection company SurfControl today announced the promotion of Australian Charles Heunemann to Senior Vice President of Sales for APAC, reporting directly to CEO Pat Sueltz.
In his previous role as Managing Director for Australia and New Zealand, Heunemann took the SurfControl brand from a start-up in the region in 2000 to one of the leading vendors in Australia's secure content management market.
According to IDC's Asia/Pacific Security Software Tracker 1H 2005, SurfControl Australia grew a strong 54% from 1H 2004 to 2H 2005 in the secure content management market.
SurfControl entered Australasia following the acquisition of Australian-developed e-mail filtering technology from EmU Tech Pty Ltd, which is now the SurfControl E-Mail Filter sold worldwide.
Sueltz said the Australian and New Zealand operations were always intended as a springboard into Asia. Heunemanns new responsibilities will include Japan, Singapore and China alongside Australia and New Zealand.
Under Charles leadership, Australasia has become SurfControls fastest growing region. As a result, SurfControl is now the most recognised brand in internet content protection in Australia and New Zealand, she said.
We are confident in Charles expertise and ability to deliver an excellent platform for growth in APAC.
In his time as Managing Director, Heunemann lobbied state and federal governments on workplace privacy legislation and spyware. He has also been actively involved in educating employers about worker behaviour and best practice in internet content protection.
Heunemann said a cornerstone of his strategy as Senior Vice President of Sales for APAC would be rolling out an Australian-developed customer care program.
The program has been extremely successful here. In fact, the Australia and New Zealand region now has the highest customer renewal rates of any region in the company, Heunemann said.
Im looking forward to replicating this success in new markets, including Japan, Singapore and China.
Heunemann said SurfControl sales strategy in the region would also involve carefully selecting resellers, in line with SurfControls global channel program. This long-term focus has meant that many of SurfControl resellers have now been partners for more than five years.
Alongside Heunemanns appointment, SurfControl has been strengthening its technical resources in the region by investing in staff knowledge and expertise.
The research and development and technical support headcount in APAC is experiencing 20% year-on-year growth and, in a key move, the SurfControl Technical Strategy Council is now chaired from Australia.
Reporting to Heunemann will be Mark Trudinger, Vice President of Sales for South East Asia and Japan, and Wang Ping, General Manager for China.
