New Zealand College Students Design New iPad Accessory

Announcement posted by BPR Ltd 08 Oct 2012

Auckland Rangitoto College students cater to 21st century needs with their new, creative designer decals.

A group of Auckland Rangitoto College students has so impressed hi tech firm YOOBEE with their new iPad accessory that they have been invited to work with them in developing the product, which is expected to launch during term four of the school year.

The IPad decals allow users to change the look of their computer tablet.

'Who would have thought we’d be producing for YOOBEE this year?' says Clement Oh, Chief Executive of Auxil, which is part of the nationwide YES programme, run across Auckland by Auckland Tourism, Events and Economic Development. The Lion Foundation Young Enterprise Scheme YES sees Year 12 and Year 13 students form real companies producing and selling innovative products which solve everyday problems.

'The mobile market is growing at an astonishing ratees, and we can expect more personalisation options to be commercialised in the future because of this. No one wants to be the same.' says Clement Oh.

Auxil took first place at the Auckland North Business Presentation Final, held at Massey University.

'Auxil has incorporated the ideas of local teens and young adults, and at only $18.90 per decal, most students with mobile devices such as an iPad are able to afford a high quality product with professional packaging' says Hilary Robotham, the YES Auckland Regional coordinator.

In addition to the personalised designer decals being available in YOOBEE stores, Clement Oh says they are expecting an online store to be rolled out within few weeks following the initial YOOBEE launch.

He explains: 'This will open our market to those outside of Auckland. It will help elevate both New Zealand and international interests.'

Auxil is a registered BUY NZ company  and the iPad decals are made by students with locally sourced material.

'The team at YOOBEE has been very helpful through the duration of the deal-sealing process' says Sam Kerse, Auxil Chairman and Operations Manager. 'They have walked us through real world business practices and have helped create a new generation of entrepreneurs. Auxil will be bringing Vision, a line of decals for tablets on the Android and Windows platforms in the near future.'
