Credit Union SA wins local Blood Challenge

Announcement posted by Credit Union SA 21 Oct 2012

An employee blood donation rate of 21% has earned Credit Union SA first place in the Australian Red Cross Blood Service's Credit Union Challenge.

This result is fantastic, especially as only 3% of the Australian population currently donates blood.

As part of the challenge donations were made by participating Credit Unions who have improved the lives of almost 300 patients in need.

Credit Union SA CEO Grant Strawbridge said “I am thrilled our staff were able to contribute to saving the lives of others. We have a workplace program that provides the opportunity for staff to donate during working hours, which makes donating accessible.”

A Blood Service spokesperson has thanked Credit Union SA for their support.

“By rolling up their sleeves and saving the lives of hundreds, South Australia's credit unions have proven that we can bank on their support.

27,000 blood donations are required in Australia every week but only one in 30 people actually give blood.

More donors are required to ensure the Blood Service is prepared to meet the increasing demand for blood and blood products which are expected to double in the next decade.

We're urging others to follow the lead of Credit Union SA.

Making a donation will take just an hour of your time and will mean a life-time to someone else."
