EAT OUT AND DO GOOD DURING NOVEMBER AND DECEMBER

From 12th November to 24th December you can add to your enjoyment of a night out or a long lunch by heading into one of nearly 170 restaurants supporting Streetsmart Australia and donating an additional $2.00 on top of your meal for homeless charities and refuges.

Top Sydney restaurants participating in the 10th anniversary of DineSmart include all the Bavarian Bier Cafes and all the Bills restaurants, Sake, Ananas, Café Sydney, China Doll, Flying Fish, Toko, Otto, The Apollo, Longrain and Kingsley Steakhouse.

Janna Szangolies of Urban Purveyor Group (Lowenbrau, Sake, The Argyle and new French bar and Brasserie, Ananas) took out last year’s National Fundraiser of the Year and says: “Our 18 restaurants have supported StreetSmart for a number of years, because every single dollar collected is donated directly to support homeless refuges and charities selected based on their need and proximity to participating restaurants.  Our staff and diners really get behind the event and we are pleased to be able to help out and support local services”

In 2003, StreetSmart founder and CEO Adam Robinson came up with the idea of diners adding a voluntary $2.00 donation to their table bill.  Ten years later the first $2.00 has multiplied a million times to raise $2 million for nearly 500 local charities.

“The amount generated every year is remarkable, for a six week campaign. Diners are proud to be part of this grassroots project, adding $2 or more onto a meal they have already enjoyed and supporting the homeless on their doorstep”.

With the support of 212 restaurants nationally, last year’s event generated $352,328.  Adam Robinson would love to mark the tenth anniversary of StreetSmart by reaching $500,000, but can only do with it the generous support of Australian diners.

StreetSmart is urging diners Australia-wide to get behind this worthwhile cause, $2 at a time, and see results in their very own neighbourhoods.

Note to editors:

StreetSmart is a unique bridge between the community and small, grassroots agencies that assist people experiencing homelessness. It supports critical services and emergency aid as well as projects that promote social inclusion, empowerment and sustainable change for people who are homeless. When money is raised from the public through fundraising events, 100 per cent of donations are distributed in the form of grants. To date StreetSmart has raised and distributed $2,020,000 to 490 grassroots projects.
