EMC Inform tackles IT commoditisation

Announcement posted by EMC 10 Jun 2004

Successful conference highlights the critical role of information in corporate Australia
More than 1000 delegates today flocked to EMC Australias inaugural showcase event EMC Inform The World of Information, which put the spotlight on information as the key differentiator for businesses and commoditisation of technology.
Over 40 of Australias leading chief information officers (CIOs) from Australias top companies gathered to hear and discuss some of the pressing technology and business issues as part of a peer-to-peer session at the conference.
Graham Mirabito, Director of Products, Services Solutions, Telstra delivered a keynote speech about network services on demand and John ONeill, Chief Executive Officer of Australian Soccer Association talked about the flow of information and its success at the 2003 Rugby World Cup.
International author Nicholas Carr, who caused an explosive debate in the global IT industry following the publication of his controversial article IT Doesnt Matter, closed the conference with a keynote address on IT and the corrosion of competitive advantage.
Inform is EMC Australias industry event held for the first time this year in response to strong demand for information management and storage solutions from corporate users.
Steve Redman, Managing Director, EMC Australia and New Zealand, said the impressive attendance at Inform reflects the improved business sentiment in corporate Australia and signals a fresh focus on information as companies face new challenges such as security and regulatory changes.
Information is now becoming increasingly critical to businesses as they try to find ways to differentiate themselves from competitors and take advantage of new and advanced applications. More than ever, information and how it is managed and used by businesses will be an important competitive tool in the global economy, Redman said.
EMC Inform generated support from Telstra, Microsoft, Cisco, Dimension Data, Oracle, Fujitsu, EDS, Dell and other industry leaders, and featured business and technology workshop streams on server virtualisation, storage ready networks, data replication over IP in the telecommunications industry, enterprise content management, storage investments and business continuity and assessment.
