Micromuse enhances Netcool/Dashboards family with sophisticated Netcool/Portal premium edition 2.0 technology

Announcement posted by Micromuse 24 Mar 2004

Netcool Solution provides single sign-on infrastructure for secure data delivery and application integration across core IT systems
Micromuse Inc. (Nasdaq: MUSEE), the leading provider of business and service assurance software, announced enhancements to its Netcool/Dashboards product family, which includes the release of Netcool/Portal v2.0. The Netcool/Dashboards family provides executive management, IT operations and lines of business, with realtime intelligence and end-to-end visibility into the health of business and IT services, processes and key performance indicators.
The Netcool/Portal product extends the functionality of the Netcool/Dashboards family with greater management of applications and data access, increased security of application servers and simplified integration between applications. It is an application-independent portal platform within the Netcool/Dashboards family that allows organisations to provide secure access to interactive back-end Web applications, implement consolidated single-sign-on and centrally coordinate user access management. The solution also enables users to securely present any number of fully interactive back-end applications in a role-based, personalised and customisable portal Web page, and to develop coordinated activities between these disparate applications.
Telefonica, one of the world's leading telecommunications companies, is a Micromuse customer and an early adopter of the Netcool/Portal product. Telefonica USA, a subsidiary of Telefonica S.A., will utilise the Netcool/Portal technology to deliver realtime, web-enabled views of its hosting services to its customers across the Americas.
"Telefonica USA is an agile provider of IT outsourcing services whose robust infrastructure combined with efficient management practices enable it to boast world-class operational performance. The Netcool/Dashboards solution with specific new features for enhanced ease of use, flexibility and customisation, enables us to quickly view realtime, historical and trend information to further streamline our business processes and operational decision-making," said Michael Harris, Director of Enterprise Management Solution Center, Telefonica USA. "The solution is perfectly aligned with our strategy, because it reaches beyond the capabilities of existing portal technology allowing administrators to easily toggle between logical, topological and graphical views of device-level and service-affecting events for true realtime centralised IT management."
The Netcool/Dashboards family provides an exclusive set of business benefits associated with managing today's IT and Operational Support System (OSS) infrastructures. Specific enhancements delivered through the release of Netcool/Portal v2.0 include:
- Advanced security and single sign-on mechanism allows administrators to assign specific role-based user privileges across multiple applications, eliminating the need for users to manage multiple user IDs and passwords.
- Centralised tool administration and cohesive interactive Web-based administration interface enables users to centrally manage any Netcool application, as well as many enterprise, OSS, and point management applications including Concord eHealth, HP OpenView IS, HP OpenView NNM, InfoVista and Remedy.
- Customisable Web dashboard enables Web-content from Netcool applications or any other web-enabled application to be brought together in a custom dashboard. Business and operational information can be displayed for a variety of audiences, including executives, operations and customers.
"With so many tools and applications in place across the enterprise, IT executives need ways to more efficiently and effectively manage business operations," said Craig Farrell, Micromuse's CTO."Recent enrichments to the Netcool/Dashboards family helps organisations integrate and consolidate disparate business applications and management tools and providing a single, realtime, web-based console for visualisation and centralised management of distributed data from across the enterprise."
