SmarterApps Warns Businesses: “Don’t Lose Your Customers by not Having an App”

Announcement posted by SmarterApps 17 Dec 2012

Australian app builder exposes how businesses that don’t have apps are losing customers to those that do.
A recent blog post from SmarterApps, an Australian mobile and game app builder and developer, painted a grim picture of the future for small businesses that don’t have mobile apps. The post compiled some recent information, patterns, and projections, and came to the conclusion that it is going to be very difficult for businesses without their own apps to find and retain new customers.

The post cited a Cisco projection that the number of mobile-connected devices will soon overtake the population in most countries. The post then “connected the dots” between mobile usage, search patterns, and the impending necessity for small businesses to have apps if they want to continue doing business.

Aitken agrees with a consensus of industry experts who feel that usage patterns are approaching a “tipping point” where most people looking for local stores, restaurants and other businesses will look in app stores instead of looking in search engines or telephone books. Soon, they project that most businesses that don’t have apps are going to be virtually invisible to the average mobile user looking for a business to patronise.

Mobile appsare built in two different varieties: native apps and Mobile Web apps. Native apps, such as iOS apps or Android apps, are built to work on one operating system. Android apps are available at Google Play, while iOS apps are available at the Apple Store.

Mobile Web apps are Internet browser-based, and can work on all mobile devices that connect to the internet. The drawback is that Mobile Web apps aren’t listed on Google Play or the Apple Store, and there is no central location in which to search.

Android, iOS, and Mobile Web apps can be costly to develop, but they serve several purposes for small businesses. Mobile apps are a great marketing tool for any business, and they make it easier for a customer to do business with any business. They allow customers to find information that they would normally have to ask an employee for, thus costing the business both time and money. In the current age, people who don’t get what they want within ten seconds on a mobile device are likely to look elsewhere for it.

Apps can also allow customers to order merchandise on their smartphones, and can even allow restaurant customers to order food. Most of all, apps allow a business to serve their customers better, and retain them for longer.

Craig Aitken, Owner and Director of SmarterApps, believes that it is mandatory for small businesses that want to remain in business to develop an app as soon as possible: “We have been in the app development business since the beginning, and we are seeing a huge increase in the number of small business apps. Sometimes, it seems like every small business has one, but in reality, many don’t.”

Aitken concluded “A lot of small businesses think they can’t afford to develop an app, when the truth is that they can’t afford to be without one. In today’s economy, competition in virtually every consumer sector or market is fierce. Customer service is paramount for customer retention. The best way to satisfy and retain customers is to give them great customer service. In this era, that includes having an app.”
