WOW! 3G SEMINAR TO DISCUSS NEXT PHASE OF 3G DEVELOPMENTS IN SINGAPORE

Announcement posted by Singapore infocomm Technology Federation (SiTF) 10 May 2005

Singapore. May 10, 2005 WOW! 3G Seminar, an industry event organised jointly by the Singapore infocomm Technology Federation (SiTF) and Singapore Computer Society (SCS), with support from the Infocomm Development Authority of Singapore (IDA), will be held on May 24 at Meritus Mandarin Singapore. Tomi Ahonen, a best-selling author and distinguished guru on next-generation mobile telecoms, has been invited to speak on the state of 3G deployments around the world and in Singapore, and how businesses and consumers can harness the 3G platform to create new value chains and enrich the quality of life. Admission to the seminar is free.
Based on the theme How will 3G change our lives?, the seminar will feature special topics for businesses and consumers.
The business topic will see Tomi Ahonen speaking on the next phase of 3G developments in the digital economy, as well as giving insights into how companies in other countries are reaping the advantages of 3G technology to improve the way they work and differentiate their products and services. He will also share advice on how these success stories can be ported to Singapore to spearhead the next phase of 3G developments here.
Singapore is in a very promising position to catch the 3G wave rapidly and for 3G to expand very broadly, as it is a small wealthy country with a high penetration rate of mobile phones. The content and services industry with existing SMS, WAP and GPRS based technologies here is also advanced. Singapore is frequently a leading and pioneering market for innovations for the industry. I am confident when the new opportunities of 3G become available in Singapore, the industry will rapidly capitalise on them, said Tomi Ahonen.
The consumer topic will take on a light-hearted approach to educate end users on enhancing their quality of life through the use of 3G technologies and services, which are currently available via the telecommunications service providers here, including M1, SingTel and StarHub.
Attendees can also look forward to a discussion panel with industry luminaries from telecommunications service providers and equipment manufacturers on the creation of new value chains by 3G. Participants will debate and discuss on the changes brought about by 3G, how 3G alters the business and competitive landscape, as well as the winners and losers in the new digital economy.
Sponsors of the WOW! 3G Seminar include service providers M1, SingTel and StarHub, as well as Accenture, Ericsson, Hewlett Packard, Microsoft and Sun Microsystems.
