The 'Showcase National Dance Championships' grand final kicks off this week with dancers from across the globe descending on the Gold Coast. This  national competition is the pinnacle event in the Australian dance calendar and after countless hours of training in studio and regional heats, Australia's finest dancers are set to demonstrate their talent on centre stage in hopes of winning a national title at the prestigious event.

Dancers from the USA, Canada, New Zealand and Australia make-up the 5,000 performers whom are vying for cash and prizes valued at over $50,000, with such brilliant competition comes more than just the odd perfectly executed high kick – at 'Showcase' the competition is fierce!

The now iconic competition grew from humble beginnings in 1994 with a simple three city tour and only 400 entrants. Today, the competition boasts an extensive 19 city tour and a 20 person strong judging team who cater for over 10,000 acts each year and is ever growing!  Under the careful direction of the competitions founder and National Director Peter Oxford, the world-famous competition has become more than simply a dance competition - it's taken its deserved position in today's dance world as an intuition in its own right!  Showcase, now known across the world as a truly credible dance brand, is one that is not simply about winning titles and taking first prize…. "Showcase is not just about the winning.  Of course, as with every sport, winning is always nice but dancing is more than just a trophy , it's an art, it's a channel of creative expression and it's a passion! It's always  been important for me to embed a sense of family for all our competitors and nurture an environment that not only encourages youth to follow their dreams but to remind them that regardless of any placements or awards  each and every one of them are stars in their own right!" says Oxford

After 6 months of gruelling heats that ran across the country the week that everyone is waiting for has finally arrived - it's Grand Final time! As of Tuesday ...thousands of dancers and their families will flock to Jupiters Casino for the ultimate battle to earn the coveted 'National Champion' title and to have their moment in the spotlight. It's not just the title on the line, 4 top overall winners will also receive an all expense paid holiday to Las Vegas!

When it comes to credibility there is one thing that the competition doesn't lack and that's expertise! National Director Peter Oxford first founded the competition after being the first Australian to win the American Dance championship in Las Vegas!  In a world where 'Dance Moms' rule and glitter is more than just a Christmas decoration,  its certainly evident that the 'Showcase National Dance Championships' are here to stay!
