Vodacom reaches out to Tanzania with PROGNOSIS

Announcement posted by Integrated Research 26 Mar 2004

Vodacom, South Africas largest mobile network operator, has continued its network expansion into Africa with the help of Australian-developed PROGNOSIS systems management software. Vodacom provides GSM services to millions of customers in Tanzania, South Africa, Mozambique, Lesotho and the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
Earlier this month PROGNOSIS was used to monitor Vodacoms newly established network in Mozambique, which was used as a template for the companys network in the east African country of Tanzania. The rollout and management of the IT infrastructure was again contracted to business solutions integrator Comparex Africa in Johannesburg.
Comparex Africa consultant Brett Dismore says PROGNOSIS has proved itself in managing Vodacoms core business-critical transaction systems both locally [in South Africa] and in neighbouring countries.
Although each country is managed individually, PROGNOSIS does give us a real-time dashboard view of our extended network infrastructure should we need it, so that we have a single point of monitoring for our cross-platform Windows and HP NonStop environment.
Developed by Sydney-based Integrated Research, PROGNOSIS is a systems management product designed to manage high-availability computing environments. PROGNOSIS monitors and reports on critical NonStop and Windows servers for hardware malfunctions, capacity problems and application errors, and pre-emptively alerts Vodacom operators should a system bottleneck threaten performance or service delivery.
Weve deployed PROGNOSIS on one NonStop S76000 server and nine Windows servers, and expect to go live in early April, adds Dismore. [We anticipate] an initial subscriber base of 500,000 users, going up to a million.
