MYOB rolls out API services to make business life even easier

Announcement posted by MYOB 18 Mar 2013

65+ developers join API developer program and enjoy their new partner portal

Australia’s largest accounting software provider, MYOB today announced the roll-out of its application programming interface (API). It starts with services for accounting solution AccountRight and the cloud-enabled AccountRight Live.

With more than 65 developers already on board, the API is available via the technology company’s open beta developer program. The API allows any application to connect to AccountRight and AccountRight Live data files.

Platform Strategy Manager Paul Greenwell says, “There’s plenty of buzz around the API, which we’re now officially launching after having provided it to select developers in desktop beta for three months. Any developer can now integrate their solutions with AccountRight and AccountRight Live – our flagship products.”

“They can create apps for our accounting solutions using any programming language, for multiple platforms such as Mac and Windows, and for devices running iOS, Android and Windows Mobile operating systems.

“The opportunities are endless for developers to create and integrate apps that make business life easier for AccountRight clients. Clients will be able to enjoy a range of apps that enable customisable reports and analysis tools that integrate with other online services, and mobile apps that make it easier to work on the go.

“And this is just the beginning. Over the coming year, we’re progressively offering more API services. These will soon include all-new MYOB integrations such as Client Accounting for accountants.”

A key tool for accountants and business advisors has been delivered with the availability of the API. Fathom (http://fathomhq.com/myob), a cloud-based management reporting and financial analysis application, now integrates with AccountRight via the desktop and the cloud.

Daniel Walls, Co-founder of Fathom says, “We’re pleased to extend our existing MYOB integration to use the new API. The API design follows best practice and represents a significant upgrade in the ability for third-party partners to access financial data from AccountRight.

“Our developers have found it very easy to achieve a stable integration. The connection between Fathom and MYOB via the new API will save time, remove manual re-keying of data and enable the delivery of more frequent advisory and reporting services.“

MYOB developer partner Michael Kramer, Technical Director at Business Driven Systems (BDS http://businessdriven.com.au) says, “The new API has revolutionised our AccountRight add-on solutions business by providing a best practice approach to both local and cloud-based integration. It not only provides a cleaner and more secure integration point than the older ODBC driver but also removes the locking and stability issues.

“We are very excited as the new API allows us to extend our add-on solutions both on the local desktop and cloud. We have a range of products such as SyncDirect, Gov Direct, Supplier Direct, and Build Logic that require ‘mission-critical’ communication with AccountRight to ensure that our clients businesses run smoothly. The API allows us to provide this type of service and opens-up the opportunity for more add-ons to be developed by BDS.”
