Rural Pharmacist uses online training to increase retail sales

Announcement posted by TodayCorp Pty Ltd 17 Oct 2005

TodayCorp Pty Ltd, Asia-Pacifics largest online learning, development and recruitment company, has today announced that SmartPharm, a pharmaceutical industry initiative of TodayCorps Healthcare Division, has signed the Orana Mall Pharmacy for use of its online training platform.
The Orana Mall Pharmacy based in the Central Western New South Wales town of Dubbo has already started to implement the online training platform by inducting and training staff, with the ultimate objective of arming staff with the latest information and knowledge in retail pharmacy specific skills, disease state management and pharmaceutical products and services to increase the pharmacys retail sales.
The first phase of the implementation included introducing new staff to the induction pack which included: Introduction to Customer Service; Introduction to Pharmacy Medicines; Occupational Health and Safety; and Loss Prevention as well as retraining the existing staff. The next phase of the implementation will include undergoing more advanced retail and skills training to identify and support staff members with skill or knowledge gaps based on the extensive reporting and analysis function of the online training platform.
The induction pack not only supports our strategy to increase retail sales, but also measures the effectiveness of our ongoing training and marketing programs, helping our pharmacy become more competitive in what is a complex commercial environment, said Simon Blacker, proprietor of Orana Mall Pharmacy.
With the Australian Governments announcement in February this year that over 5,000 pharmacies across Australia are now eligible to receive funding to connect to and use broadband Internet access, the ability for pharmacy staff to undertake up to date online training in rural and remote Australia has now become a reality.
According to the General Manager of SmartPharm Warwick Marx, this is a classic case of how rural and remote pharmacies across Australia can use the Internet to directly benefit their businesses by increasing pharmacy specific knowledge, reducing costs and increasing compliance all in a cost effective manner.
Rural and remote pharmacies are now using SmartPharm as a tool to mitigate risk in areas such as occupational health and safety as well as using SmartPharm as a tool to ensure the consistent delivery of training materials.
As healthcare professionals, pharmacists and their staff are seen as trusted advisers in their local communities. If pharmacies are to safeguard their trusted and professional status, they cannot afford to have poorly trained staff, he added.
