San Remo celebrates 500 online recipes milestone

Announcement posted by Leverage PR 01 Jul 2013

People are creatures of habit. The average Australian family has a dozen favourite recipes that everyone likes and are easy to prepare. Typically, these family favourites are cycled through every couple of weeks – sometimes more often. But as much as we are creatures of habit, we also like a bit of variety!

“Two key consumer insights have guided us here,” says San Remo Chief Marketing Officer, Michael Neale. “The first is that people browse recipes to find new ideas to replace recipes that have become tired in their repertoire, often not concerning themselves so much with the detail of the recipe as the inspiration and ideas that they find. The second key insight is that increasingly they are doing that online where the detail can be much richer if needed.”

“San Remo wanted to give people greater inspiration so we have developed a range of recipes that include quick and easy to prepare recipes that incorporate ingredients that are often found in the pantry at home right through to historical regional recipes and dinner party recipes,” Mr Neale said.

“Spaghetti Bolognese is certainly one of the most common and popular meals for Australians of all ages, but you wouldn’t want that every night – but imagine the variety that would come with serving a Couscous and fish recipe that captures the flavours of Sicily one night and then a Puglian inspired Orecchiette and Broccoli dish the next,” he said.

“With 500 recipes now on the San Remo website people can download anything from Agnolotti through to Zucchini Tagliatelle, and confidently cook an easy meal for one through to a room full of guests at a gala dinner party.”

Mr Neale said the recipes had been developed by some of Australia’s top chefs and culinary personalities – including cooking gurus Michael Keelan and Michael Angelakis, dietitian and acclaimed netballer Natalie von Bertouch, Masterchef finalist Michael Weldon, Sports Dietitian for the Australian Netball Diamonds Kerry Leech and Celebrity Chef Adam Swanson.

“People want meals that are quick and easy to prepare, but incorporate quality ingredients so they don’t sacrifice the enjoyment of the taste test at the end, and our range of menu ideas offer the perfect solutions,” Mr Neale said.

“Choosing the right recipe is easy because the online recipe database is searchable by key ingredient and every recipe includes preparation and cooking times as well as a difficulty indicator,” he said.

“We’ve also built into our recipe selector options for people who might prefer gluten-free meals or are vegetarians etc. so all the bases are covered.”

“With between one quarter and one third of the recipes having an embedded video of the recipe being prepared, and with the cultural information we provide, we believe that this site is now one of the most important pasta specific resources on the internet.”

San Remo has made refreshing your recipe repertoire even easier through Facebook. People who like the San Remo Facebook page receive regular recipe posts from the extensive database. To receive these posts, go to www.facebook.com/sanremopasta and like the page.
