SCO appoints new reseller for authentication solution

Announcement posted by SCO Group 16 Oct 2003

SCO appoints Dattatech as new authorised reseller; actively chases new partners for SCOoffice Mail and SCO Authentication solutions
The SCO Group (NASDAQ: SCOX), owner of the UNIX operating system, has appointed Sydney-based systems integrator Dattatech as an Authorised Reseller.Dattatech will focus on delivering solutions to its customers based on SCO's new Authentication solution suite.
Dattatech provides a full range of technology services to SMEs, larger corporates and government organisations. The company has a strong focus on providing complete technology outsource services, enabling its clients to focus on core business activities.
SCO Secure Authentication Server helps IT administrators to simplify the management of multiple user accounts by enabling one username and one password for access to Windows, UNIX and Linux systems.
Dattatech will also develop solutions for the SCOoffice Mail Server, a secure, easy-to-install backoffice messaging and collaboration solution that supports day-to-day business operations for SME businesses and replicated sites of larger organisations. It is compatible with Microsoft Outlook and other popular email clients, but priced at a fraction of the cost of other messaging servers such as Microsoft Exchange.
"Businesses are crying out for solutions and service providers that can help their operations grow, without distracting management teams from their core business activities," said Kieran O'Shaughnessy, SCO's regional general manager for Australia and New Zealand.
"They are looking for value for money and want to avoid technology and licensing lock-ins.
"SCO's new authentication solution has received excellent response in this region and we are now looking to add a number of strong partners, like Dattatech, to our existing network."
Kane Robinson, Dattatech's co-founder and sales director, said that is his experience, customers are willing to spend money on solutions that meet their business needs and with services organisations that will take the extra step to deliver quality support.
"It might be an old fashioned way of doing things, but the companies that are spending money on technology solutions right now want to shake hands with people dressed in suits; who are professional; and have a track record of delivering what they promise.
"The trend towards deploying open systems solutions is being driven by cost conscious businesses that don't mind what lies in the backend technology, so long as it works 24x7, is compatible with their existing network investments and can reduce their ongoing maintenance and licensing costs.
"With this in mind, we are very pleased to have been appointed a SCO partner. The new SCO solutions enable us to offer our customers' solutions that will cut their costs, boost their ROI, while improving our ability to deliver on time, under budget and with less ongoing maintenance concerns."
Dattatech takes a partnership approach with all its customers which include 2010 (a Sydney charity), Bishop Technologies and others in the financial services and manufacturing/retail industries. Dattatech also managed the technology services for the 2002 Gay Games, held in Sydney.
Encouraged by what Robinson calls "alternative plug and play solutions that mimic and improve upon Microsoft investments", Datttech has already deployed SCOoffice Mail Server at one customer site, "with many more to go".
"The licensing value proposition alone was enough reason to go SCO. We could put in a ten-seat Exchange server for $12,000 to $15,000 at a customer site, but for a fraction of that cost we can now deploy SCO - which is as good as and in some areas a better, solution - make better margins and know that the solution will be more secure long-term and remain compatible with industry standards."
